
Jenny Borthwick was taking no chances when she evacuated to Moruya Showground on January 4 with her much-loved mare, Missy.
"I think our place will go today," the North Moruya resident told Australian Community Media.
Using waterproof laundry marker, she carefully wrote BORTHWICK and her phone number on Missy's coat.
A month ago, when the Currowan fire was still in its terribly infancy, Mrs Borthwick told Australian Community Media of her plan.
If things came to the worst, and Missy was running free through broken and burning fences, the laundry marker plan would help to later locate her.
Horseman Adrian Feirer picked up Missy in his float and took her to Moruya Showground, the official large animal evacuation point.
"We were rescued," Mrs Borthwick said.

Her husband John has not been in the best of health and needed a safer haven in town.
"We managed to get a vacant house at Bergalia St, so John and dogs are safe," Mrs Borthwick said.
Then came another offer of acreage where Missy would be more comfortable and have more space.
"Wow! Someone up there is looking after us," Mrs Borthwick said.
As she was leading Missy out of the showground, the Sunrise TV crew noticed her laundry marker artwork.
"They asked me where I was going with a horse who looked like she was going to jail with her name and number written all over her body," Mrs Borthwick said.
The former Mundarra Preschool principal has a sense of humour as dry as a South Coast paddock.
"So now the whole of NSW could have my phone number," she said.
"I will never know as no-one has TV reception."
