'We’ve got a top right back for League One on our hands' - Sunderland fans react to Conor McLaughlin's signing

Sunderland fans have reacted positively to their first transfer signing of the summer.

Northern Ireland right-back became the first new face at the Stadium of Light in this window when he signed on a free transfer after being released by Millwall.

McLaughlin, who has 34 caps for his country, has signed a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light and, following Adam Matthews' release, will offer competition on the right-hand side of the Sunderland defence.

Luke O'Nien made the position his own after converting from midfield last season, but with only Donald Love as a recognised right-back on the books, more depth was certainly needed.

And that's something fans picked up on today after the signing was announced, with many fans pleased to see the defender arrive at the club.

"Always been impressed with Conor McLaughlin when he has played for Northern Ireland throughout the years, very good signing for this level," tweeted Dev, while Adam Gill said McLaughlin was "a proper full back and brings a lot of experience to the side".
