Gjanni Alioski's first-half strike was enough to hand the visitors their first defeat of the season and see Marcelo Bielsa's men leapfrog the Baggies in the table.
Leeds were made to work for their win, with Slaven Bilic's side piling on the pressure after the break and ending the match with more possession that their hosts.
Coming after Saturday's disappointing defeat to Charlton and after a dropping points in three of their four home games so far, the gritty, hard-fought win has gone down very well among Leeds fans.
