We've all been cooking frozen food wrong for decades

At the end of a long day, frozen food is often a go-to for many.

It means you won’t need to spend a lot of time preparing and cooking, instead you can throw something into the oven and spend time relaxing.

Frozen food is there for us whenever we need it - from Bernard Matthews meats, to packs of Birds Eye, supermarket own-brand pies, McCains potato products and plenty more.

But, it turns out we’ve actually been cooking frozen food wrong for decades, reports BirminghamLive.

The ‘correct’ way has now been revealed and many have been left surprised.

Typically, you will leave your frozen food out to defrost in the morning if you think it cannot be cooked straight from frozen.

But this is when we have all been making a mistake, according to experts, who have revealed the right way to start cooking your frozen items.

People have said the advice is a "game-changer", while some say they'll ignore it and carry on regardless.

It turns out we should be defrosting your frozen food in a very specific place.

You should never thaw food on a kitchen surface, according to experts - be it a kitchen counter, draining board or other.

People are also being warned against letting food defrost in a cold garage.

Experts say the best way to thaw frozen food is in the refrigerator.

If you're rushed for time, experts say you can defrost food using other methods, like a bath, tub of water or a microwave.

But you must ensure thawing - otherwise you'll find yourself eating unevenly cooked food.
