Residents have woken up to find fake parking tickets containing angry messages and foul language plastered on their cars.
Police have launched an investigation after a number of drivers in the West End area of Broadbottom in Tameside found the phony penalty notices on their windscreens.
One woman said she found a bogus fine on her car on Tuesday morning.
Greater Manchester Police are treating the incident as an offence under the Malicious Communications Act.
Officers posted an image of the tickets on the GMP Tameside South Facebook page and appealed for anybody with further information about the culprit to come forward.
A message on the page said: "A number of residents in Broadbottom have been waking up to find these notices on their vehicles.
"It would appear that the person posting these on vehicles feels aggrieved in some way with regard to the manner of parking in the area. The hand written comments on the notices concerned is not acceptable and has caused distress to those receiving them.

"These notices themselves are intended as a joke amongst friends but that is not the manner in which they are being used in this instance.
"We understand that parking is an emotive subject and quite often both parties involved believe that they are justified in their actions but we need to make this absolutely clear that using these fake notices in this way constitutes an offence under the Malicious Communications Act."

Neighbours in the area have commented about the issues with parking and said residents have paid for the upgrade of the land for their own parking.
One resident wrote: "It is a problem, we all know it, we have to live in a village not made for cars or huge cars at that. It is a way of life. If this was you that is intimidating the residents legitimately parking on West End embrace the village and it's problems or move.
"I too agree that the police should be spending more time dealing with more serious issues, but this person, obviously has anger issues, which may result in a more serious physical anger if not dealt with, that none of us want in our village."
Another Facebook user commented: "Parking there is horrendous though, nothing ever seems to be done about it despite some offences being in the police remit."
GMP Tameside South officers responded by adding there are regular patrols on Mottram Road and the surrounding area, with tickets issued to drivers who obstruct pavements.
Anyone with further information about the notices is asked to call the neighbourhood policing team on 0161 856 9493.
