We try one of Nottingham’s lowest rated takeaways on Tripadvisor and are pleasantly surprised

I was curious.

Recently, I have been logging onto TripAdvisor to see how the takeaways in Nottingham have been rated.

As I am currently staying in a hotel with no restaurant, most of my evenings consist of me trolling the internet in search of what meal I will be having that night.

While looking through Tripadvisor I saw that UK Pizza, on 84 Radford Boulevard, was rated two and a half stars out of five. However, with just seven reviews to judge from, does it really deserve to the ranked 923 or 926 restaurants in Nottingham on the popular review site. I was intrigued.

So, I decided to see if the service and the grub was really as bad as a few consumers had said.

About an hour after placing my order, the delivery man handed me my two seven-inch pizzas.

I went with one Margherita, just to be safe, and The Ugly Pizza, just to be adventurous.

I attacked the Margherita first, too nervous to venture into The Ugly Pizza just yet.

It must be said that the Margherita pizza was rather tasty and had everything you could want from a pizza – hot and cheesy, no complaints there.

Then it was time for main event and The Ugly Pizza lived up to its name if nothing else.

Topped with onions, mushroom, tandoori chicken, jalapeno, and fries… seriously - fries! It did not look incredibly appetising. In fact, I was a bit worried to try it.

But I guess if you are called the ugly pizza, you are not going to be the most aesthetically pleasing thing on the menu.

While I was prepared for an unattractive looking pizza, what I was not ready for was hard crust and a serious case of flaming mouth syndrome.

The first bite set my pallet aflame, and, in all honesty, I could only finish half of it.

The thing that disturbed me most was the fries. Unlike pineapple, they do not belong on a pizza. I do not think anyone can argue with that.

Overall, was the “If I could give zero stars I would” comment from one reviewer necessary? Probably not.

From the experience I had eating from UK Pizza, I certainly would not tell people not to order from there.

But if you do, maybe avoid The Ugly Pizza.
