‘We tried to save him’: Couple’s vacation turns to horror in deadly crocodile attack

  • A Southern California couple, Chris Bury and Jamie Yetter, witnessed a fatal crocodile attack on a swimmer in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, while on vacation.
  • The couple initially rushed to help, believing the victim was caught in a rip current, but then saw a large crocodile attacking the man by the thigh.
  • Bury attempted to rescue the swimmer, identified as 28-year-old local Irving, with a life preserver and a kayak, but the crocodile dragged him underwater.
  • Irving's body was recovered 12 hours later after an extensive search by Mexican authorities, who described the incident as "extremely unusual."
  • The Jalisco government attributed the increased presence of crocodiles near beaches to higher water levels from the rainy season and has since increased surveillance and issued warnings.
