We tried 'Revvies' instant-energy caffeine strips and this is what we thought

For many, the first lockdown in March 2020 provided an opportunity to reset and kick some not-so-healthy habits.

Lines were drawn in the sand. Gyms and leisure centres were closed but home cooking and Joe Wicks-inspired home workouts were now the order of the day.

As time passed, however, 'lockdown fatigue' set in. Fast-food restaurants reopened and the weather over the British Winter sapped the masses of their motivation. Working out at home lost its novelty.

When gyms reopened on April 12, I was eager to back on the proverbial saddle. So when the opportunity arose to try out 'Revvies', I was a more than willing participant.

'Revvies' is a 40mg caffeine athletic performance booster. They say they are designed for everyone from "Olympians to those just starting their fitness journey."

How it works is simple. You place one of their strips# on your tongue and within five minutes you should start to feel the benefits.

"The caffeine in Revvies will help you maintain focus and allow you to train and race at peak performance for longer by masking your feelings of fatigue."

Their greatest selling point, they are keen to stress, is the speed at which they begin to work.

"Traditional sources of caffeine such as drinks, gels or tablets take much longer, as they are absorbed in the stomach at approximately 45-60 minutes."

So, to the all-important question: do they actually work?

On a personal note, I would argue it's hard to say.

Since gyms have reopened on April 12, I have had the motivation to get in 4-5 days a week. How much you can attribute this to Revvies is unclear.

In the product's defence though, I'm somebody who will generally drink 4-5 coffees throughout the course of most days anyway. So perhaps I'm not their traditional target market.

With that said, on days where I've felt sluggish, I've used Revvies as a pre-workout to give me a quick boost.

If you're somebody who works long hours but still want to train with frequency and intensity, they are certainly worth a try - particularly at their fairly modest price of £9.99 for 4 packs of 5.

Like most supplements, figuring out whether they are right for you can only be truly judged with trial and error but you can check out these Amazon reviews to see what others thought.
