We sampled Liverpool's 'famous' salt and pepper box people are visiting the city just to try

A Liverpool chippy is serving its customers the ultimate salt and pepper treat.

Heritage Fish and Chip is off the beaten track so many may never have eaten there before but since the launch of its salt and pepper box it has had everyone talking.

Located on Great Howard Street, its huge menu includes everything you would expect and a bit extra. It has a full Chinese food menu, English classics including fish and chips, pies and more.

When the chippy shared a picture of the salt and pepper box on their Instagram feed people were even begging friends to travel to Liverpool with them just to try it and even arrange visits to get their hands on one.

On a Friday afternoon we decided to give it a try.

We turned up at around 12pm and it was busy - a queue at the counters and tables inside were almost all full - a good sign, we thought.

The salt and pepper box comes in two sizes; medium (£9.50) or large (£12). We went for the medium which came with chicken, bbq ribs, kebab meat, chicken wings, chips, spring rolls and a carton of curry sauce.

We picked ours up and took it back to the office - a five minute drive.

The food was put into a pizza box which gives you a good indication of its portion size - enough to feed four people. On first appearance, it was messy with it looking like the food had been thrown into the box.

However, on first taste we realised it worked.

Everything we tried was covered in salt and pepper seasoning however the temperature did let it down, with the office only a short drive away we expected it to be a lot warmer.

Although the spring rolls and the chips were winners for us and when it came to the chicken the batter was crunchy and tasted nice but there wasn't enough meat for us.

We all agreed it would be the perfect hangover cure or food when you really want to indulge but it is a lot so you would need to make sure you're hungry when ordering.
