We tried Costa's new Valentine's Day Rolo range and one item stole the show

Costa has launched a new range just in time for Valentine's Day, and it features a very nostalgic chocolate - the Rolo.

Known for its popular advertising slogan all about true love, the chocolate seems perfectly apt for the new range. Whether you love someone enough to 'give them your last Rolo' or not, it's safe to say the new range looks pretty interesting.

The popular chain is known for its array of signature hot drinks to mark certain occasions. From Terry's Chocolate Orange hot chocolates to the festive classic Quality Street Toffee Penny latte - there's been plenty to choose from in the past.

This time, the new Valentine's Day range features a limited edition Rolo Chocolate Caramel Hot Chocolate & Light Dairy swirl. Made with Costa's signature hot chocolate, the sweet drink is blended with chocolate and caramel flavour sauce.

The hot chocolate also includes caramel syrup and finished with a light dairy swirl and caramel drizzle to finish it off. So it's safe to say there's certainly a lot of flavours to unpack.

Rolo fans will only have until February 15 to purchase the limited edition range. We took a trip to our local Costa to see if it's worth your time and money.

The Rolo Hot Chocolate

I'm a huge fan of hot chocolate, and whenever I see Costa has launched a new flavour I get giddy to say the least. Usually, my excitement turns swiftly to disappointment and I end up not being very impressed.

I've always found with previous limited edition Costa hot chocolates that they just taste like an ordinary one with a mini chocolate planted on top. Out of all the different chocolate flavours Costa have launched so far, I've got to say that the Terry's Chocolate Orange range was my favourite - purely because it actually tasted like Terry's Chocolate Orange.

Nevertheless, I was hoping I'd be proved wrong by the Rolo Valentine's Day hot chocolate this time round, and my opinions were mixed. I was really chuffed with the nostalgic chocolate being brought back on the scene, and was thankful for the mini pack on top of my cup.

I went for a small size (which actually looked pretty big) with cream on top and a light caramel drizzle. As expected, the hot chocolate didn't look anything like the advertisement, but that could've been because it was in a takeaway cup.

I took a huge sip and was pretty blown away by the sweetness of the chocolate, it was actually quite sickly. The hot chocolate definitely had a strong hint of caramel, which pleasantly surprised me.

The sweetness of the drink was just too overpowering for me, and I actually ended up throwing the rest of it away. For me, it was just too much, but that might not be the case for everyone.

As a whole, I wouldn't say I was massively disappointed with the Rolo hot chocolate, but I wouldn't say it was my favourite. Terry's Chocolate Orange will always be the winner in my eyes.

The Rolo Muffin

It's been a while since I've had Rolo chocolate, but I've always enjoyed the delicious caramel taste of the popular treat. With this in mind, I was keen to give Costa's Rolo muffin a try.

I think Costa is one of the best coffee shop chains when it comes to cakes. There's always a wide selection of snacks on offer, all perfect for enjoying alongside a hot drink.

I was lucky enough to grab the last Rolo muffin when I paid a visit to my nearest Costa today. With three Rolo sweets on top of a chunky chocolate muffin, it certainly looked enticing.

I couldn't wait to tuck in and was pleasantly surprised by the taste. The muffin has a delicious caramel layer on top, which tasted sweet and luxurious. The sponge was nice and just what you'd expect from a Costa muffin. A real highlight was the centre of the muffin, which was filled with gooey caramel - just like the middle of a Rolo.

I thought this tasted just like the iconic chocolate and it had a really pleasant aftertaste, too. Overall, I was really impressed with the muffin and would definitely get it again.
