We tried chocolate Santas from every supermarket and on value for money there's only one winner

You can't beat a chocolate Santa at Christmas time and there are more varieties around than ever.

Big ones, small ones and everything in between, supermarket shelves are packed with the foil covered jolly fellows.

We know our families love a good recommendation, so we were only too happy to put the various Santas to the test to help you decide which one might be worthy of a space in that stocking this Christmas.

Only certain supermarkets seem to have their own brand, so when it came to Tesco and Sainsbury's we opted for the various branded ones like Kinder, Lindt and Dairy Milk.

Now most people have a chocolate they favour and when it came to the taste test, we all picked out the ones we love most.

Dairy Milk the biggest hit for two of us, one preferring Kinder and the other Lindt. Despite initially thinking the white chocolate Dairy Milk would be the overall winner, none of us were that impressed with the taste.

Three of the Santas - from Lidl, Aldi and Morrisons - were much bigger, Lidl's being 150g and the latter two 175g.

The three on the left - from Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons - are the biggest (Manchester Family / MEN)

Despite Lidl's and Aldi's looking exactly the same under the wrappers (if you ignore the chunk that dropped off one of them whilst unwrapping), they tasted different - the Lidl chocolate a bit blander and the shell seeming thinner, perhaps because of the slight weight difference.

Asda's was pretty tasty, but we all gave the biggest thumbs up to the Morrisons one, which also happens to have a very cute design on the front, if you even bother to look at it before scoffing it that is.

While the chocolate isn't Dairy Milk standard, it's definitely the best of the supermarket versions and at £1.50 for 175g - less than half of what you pay for the well known brands - you're getting a lot more of the tasty milky stuff for your money. And that's the kind of treat we all need this Christmas.
