We tried Chateau-X's 24k Gold Tomahawk and we were blown away

Glasgow's food scene, as we all know, is forever expanding with new cafés, restaurants and bakeries opening each week.

Whether it's in the southside or east end, there's a lot of places we love and quite frankly can't get enough of.

But one addition to the west end, which opened in December of last year, has impressed Glaswegians with their latest menu item - and we couldn't not try it out.

Chateau-X, located on Claremont Street, Finnieston, is giving customers the chance to try their 24k Gold Tomahawk. And whilst you may think it will cost you an arm and a leg, it's fairly affordable compared to other price tags.

Off the back of Chef Nusr-Et, who launched his £1,450 golden steak and £100 gold burger at his London restaurant last year, Chateau-X has gone one better by making their 24k Gold Tomahawk a staggering 97% more affordable than you'll find from the London chef, also known as 'Salt Bae'.

From the founders of Six by Nico, Chateau-X believes their steak will be the world's most affordable gold-leaf Tomahawk ever served in a restaurant, with Gilmour Butcher, a British meat supplier, partnering with the brand for the limited-edition offer.

Their menu as a whole offers a lot, from a Chateaubriand Steak for two costing just £35 to their mouth-watering bone marrow burger - both dishes you won't want to miss.

Ordering the gold steak however (because how could we not?), it's safe to say we were blown away by the dish and better yet we didn't have to venture down to London for the experience.

Opting for it to be cooked medium-rare, the 24k golden steak is certainly worth every penny and is one of the best steaks we have had - and the gold certainly elevates its looks. We were given the option to have a sauce, such as garlic butter, alongside it but the steak was so soft, flavourful, juicy and cooked to perfection that it didn't need it.

There are a number of sides to choose from such as Soja bread and beef fat butter as well as four crisp oysters and garlic emulsion. However we decided to try the Ox Doughnuts and Gentleman Relish costing £5.

Although there are only two doughnuts, it's plenty as the starter itself combined with the 1KG steak and sides does become rather filling - in the best way possible.

As well as going for a starter, we also chose two of their sides, opting for their skinny roosters chips and their beef dripping carrots, carrot top and tarragon pesto. And unsurprisingly, we couldn't fault any of the dishes.

As well as trying their food, we also treated ourselves to their luxury golden cocktail, which we should add - is worth the money. If you're wondering what makes up the drink, it features Amaretto, Luxardo and Lemon which is then topped with Prosecco and of course, the all important 24k gold leaf flakes.

To end we finished with their free vanilla ice cream which was served in a cone and topped with their deliciously sharp raspberry sauce.

The Finnieston restaurant will have their 24k gold Tomahawk steak available to purchase every Thursday throughout July and every diner who purchases will be given a little something on their table in an envelope with one lucky person winning the ultimate golden ticket that will see them treated to 1KG gold leaf Tomahawk steak for the same price.

Andy Temple, Chief Creative Officer at Simeone Group said: "We want to make quality and local meats more accessible to the people of Glasgow (and further afield) and also have a bit of fun with it. Chateau-X does exactly that every day and we hope everyone gets the chance to enjoy it - even if you aren't the lucky winner!".
