We tried a homemade Nottingham Easter egg compared to household names - and the winner is clear

When it comes to chocolate, let's be clear, most of us aren't that fussy.

Easter is here and the chocolate eggs have been flying off the shelves at supermarkets.

Each year there's more and more choice, with popular favourites like Cadbury eggs and Lindt bunnies, along with children's TV themed goodies and plenty of quirky choices too.

This week, we have picked up a homemade chocolate egg from Chocolate Utopia, right from the heart of Nottingham on Friar Lane and compared it with the household names of Cadbury's and Terry's Chocolate Orange eggs to see if Nottingham really does it better.

Here's how the three compared.

Cadbury's Mini Eggs egg

You can't really go wrong with Cadbury's, can you?

It's a taste pretty much everyone enjoys and these are bound to be some of the most popular eggs this year.

For £3 at Tesco Express in Angel Row, the value is pretty good. But the egg wasn't massive. You do though get a tea cup thrown in which is a nice touch.

Rating - 3/5

Terry's Chocolate Orange egg

Terry's can divide opinion in the confectionery world but it is definitely one of my favourite types of chocolate to indulge in of an evening.

Again for £3 from the Tesco Express it's good value and you get a much larger egg and a bar of Terry's Chocolate Orange to go with it. No special tea cup though.

I may be wrong to many of you, but give me this over Cadbury's any day.

Rating - 4/5

Chocolate Utopia

I've definitely saved the best for last.

First of all, the Chocolate Utopia egg was more than double the price of the two others at £6.50 and there were no extras such as a cup or chocolate bar.

But the old adage of you get what you pay for rings true here. The chocolate just tasted so much better and was of a much higher quality.

There was also a very nice personal service of ordering my egg with the business over email and going to collect it from them.

The winner is clear to see (or taste).

Rating 5/5
