'We thought the world of her' Devastated farm worker pays tribute to young colleague killed in quad bike crash

A devastated farm worker has paid tribute to a young colleague who died in a quad bike crash.

The 21-year-old victim, named locally as Sam Bunting, died after an accident at Gerranton Farm, near Castle Douglas, on Wednesday.

The colleague described Sam as a 'super person' and told how staff 'thought the world of her'.

Emergency services were rushed to the farm about a mile from Castle Douglas but Sam was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police and HSE officials are now investigating the death.

Sam had worked at the farm for a number of years and had gone out on the quad bike before being fatally injured.

Speaking to the Daily Record, a worker said: "We thought the world of her, she was a really super person."

Devastated friends also flooded social media with glowing tributes to Sam - many saying she was taken 'far too young'.

Michelle Morrison said: "Can’t believe you are gone , thoughts are with your family and friends at this difficult time.. you will be sorely missed."

Janet Turnbull said: "There is a huge hole in the lives of everyone who knew you that will never be repaired."

Katherine Anne McIsaac said: "So incredibly sad my thoughts go out to her friends and family.

"She will be very much missed."

Kelly Walker said: "Incredibly sad, our thoughts are with her family and friends, such a lovely young lady taken far too young."

The dairy farm is operated by Messrs JR Heuchan and Son and a spokesman said: “We don’t really know what happened at this time and the accident is being investigated.

“She’s worked at the farm for some considerable time and did all sorts of work.

"She was such a lovely person.

"It’s been a terrible shock for everyone and we are so sorry that this has happened.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a 21-year-old injured after coming off a quad bike on a farm near Castle Douglas shortly after 11.15am on Wednesday, September 22.

“Emergency services attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.”
