Sadly, because of the way the world is, women are constantly looking over their shoulders. The truth is, being female means that others perceive us as more vulnerable, and in turn, are more likely to take advantage. Every woman out there has a story of their own close call, and TikToker Saskia Archer (@saskiacarolina) is no exception.
In her two-part story, which has cumulatively amassed nearly 30,000 views, Archer began by explaining that at 4am, she was sitting in an Uber and felt “something strange.”
What happened on this Uber ride?
She explained: “I was sitting in an Uber and feeling something strange, and I realized, because I’ve been completely out of it, I look around I don’t know where I am. [I] check on my maps. I am 40 minutes away from where I should be. I should have been about five minutes away from where I should be.”
Then, a notification from Uber popped up on her phone. The notification said she was not headed towards her destination and that it thinks she’s unsafe.
“For context, I had just had my flight delayed, and I was flying in from LA, and I was tired. I was out of it, and I was tired,” she said. “Kind of smart of him to choose that time for me. I was also on Live, which was interesting, and I think it may have saved me.”
Did TikTok save her life?
She then expanded on her experience with the Uber driver, reiterating that she believed TikTok “literally saved [her] life.”
Archer noted that the journey should have taken fifteen minutes, but twenty minutes later, she was nowhere near home.
“I realize it’s very dark,” she said. “There’s industrial buildings around here, but there’s no windows anywhere. There’s like a forest nearby. It’s no street lights. I’m like, this is a little dodgy.”
She said instead of trying to “assessing my situation quietly,” she said “every freaking thought out loud.”
“I shared every thought I had, so I was looking at my phone. I’m like, ‘Wait, what the hell was going on? Why am I here? What? Why are we doing so many turns?'” she continued. “Because I was on TikTok Live, and then I clocked the driver. I saw him look at me, clock me, assess me, and something in his demeanor changed, and he changed his mind.”
“Now I’m a huge believer that it’s because I was being loud and chaotic and just outrageous on TikTok Live, which was saying that, like, don’t mess with me,” she concluded. “I’m not gonna go easily. I’m not gonna be passive.”
In the comments, many of the users were shocked. They expressed concern and gave Archer their well-wishes. One commenter agreed with Archer’s TikTok Live tactic, writing, “Be loud, be scary, be crazy!!!! Save lives!”
A second wrote, “[Expletive], that must of been scary.” To which Archer replied, “Definitely it was as soon as I realized what was happening, it took me longer than I should have.”
