We’ve been testing Aldi products to see how they compare against more expensive branded goods - and today we’re looking at all things sweet.
The Mirror has put the best “copycat” cakes and biscuits to the test against the likes of Jaffa Cakes, Mars and Mr Kipling.
We also looked at Milky Way, Jammie Dodgers and Choco Leibniz to see how far apart they really are.
If you missed part one of our taste test, we compared Aldi crisps against your favourite brands such as Walkers, McCoys and Pom Bears.
Aldi “dupes” aren’t new, but questions have been raised in recent weeks after M&S started legal action over claims its Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake is too similar to Marks’ Colin.
What's your favourite Aldi product? Let us know: mirror.money.saving@mirror.co.uk
M&S says the Aldi cake infringes its trademark and "rides on the coat-tails" of its reputation and is trying to pull Cuthbert from shelves.
In return, Aldi has launched a #FreeCuthbert campaign on social media alongside a series of tongue-in-cheek tweets aimed at M&S.
Of course, we don’t know yet what the outcome of the case will be.
But as we look at other Aldi products, keep in mind that the below results are just our opinion - you may think completely differently.
Jaffa Cakes vs Aldi Jaffa Cakes
You can see straight away that McVitie's Jaffa Cakes are bigger than Aldi's - but does size really matter?
We actually prefer the Aldi Jaffa Cakes, despite being smaller, as its more compact size means the jam is spread out across the whole cake.
In comparison, the McVitie's version has a blob of jam in the middle so the edges of the cake aren't covered.
Taste wise, the tangy orange zest is slightly stronger with the McVitie's cakes.
Not far apart at all, and both delicious, but Aldi just takes the crown for us thanks to its jam to sponge ratio.
Aldi price: 75p (24 cakes)
Jaffa Cake price: 99p (20 cakes)
Mars vs Aldi Titan
Again, you do get slightly less with Aldi as we notice their Titan chocolate bar is smaller than Mars.
In terms of taste, both were incredibly similar - we loved the very gooey nougat and stringy caramel from both sides.
But if we have to pick a winner, Mars edges it for its slightly nicer chocolate coating and softer bar.
Aldi price: 55p (six bars)
Jaffa Cake price: £1.24 (four bars)
Milky Way vs Dreemy
Another classic retro sweet from your childhood - the Milky Way. But how does the Aldi version, Dreemy, compare?
Both treats are very similar and the whipped white centres are light and fluffy.
They both also have an even coating of milk chocolate across them, with the characteristic ripple on top.
Again, another one that we would struggle to tell apart in normal circumstances.
If we had to pick, we'd say Milky Way has a bit more of a richer taste.
A Mars Wrigley UK spokesperson said: " We already know that the taste of Mars and Milky Way are both out of this world but we’re thrilled to hear that we came out top!“
Aldi price: 85p (16 mini bars)
Milky Way price: £1 (six bars)
Jammie Dodges vs Aldi Jammy Wheels
Straight away, we notice the biscuits have a slightly different pattern but are similar in size.
Jammie Dodgers have a splat design and heart in the middle, where you see the jam coming through, while the Aldi biscuits have a circular motif.
Jam-wise, both are pretty consistent and we can't say one had more than the other.
In fact, the overall taste is on par - but if we're being picky, the Jammie Dodgers are just ever so slightly more buttery.
Aldi price: 42p (140g)
Jammie Dodgers price: 50p (140g)
Mr Kipling French Fancies vs Aldi Fondant Fancies
Opening up the boxes, we were baffled - you honestly would not be able to tell each brand apart on appearance alone.
Both use the same colour fondants - yellow, pink and brown - and even have the same white and black icing stripes.
But how about the taste? Out of this whole test, these products are the ones that tasted absolutely spot on similar.
Each version has a soft sponge and smooth blob of buttercream at the top. Outstanding.
Aldi price: £1.19 (six cakes)
Mr Kipling price: £1.25 (six cakes)
Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewells vs Aldi Cherry Bakewells
Sadly, Aldi didn't come off as well when we pitted its cherry bakewells against Mr Kipling.
On first appearance, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
Both have that characteristic topping of icing and a glacier cherry in the centre. They are similar in size too.
But as we bite into it, the Mr Kipling version has slightly more cherry jam at the bottom - so for this reason, we rate it over Aldi.
Saying this, the taste of the jam, combined with a lovely sponge and icing, was on par for both brands.
Aldi price: 75p (six cakes)
Mr Kipling price: 85p (six cakes)
Choco Leibniz vs Aldi Butter Biscuits
I have to confess, these are one of my favourite biscuits - so I know the taste very well.
Both brands have a slightly different pattern on top - the Choco Leibniz ones have their name on the front, while Aldi's have pictures of famous buildings.
They're pretty much the same size too.
And when it comes to taste, we were pleasantly surprised to find little difference between our favourite Choco Leibniz and Aldi.
The chocolate was rich with both brands and the biscuit itself nice and buttery. Well worth the price swap.
Aldi price: 65p (125g)
Choco Leibniz: £1 (125g)
Aldi buying director, Julie Ashfield, said: “We’re thrilled to have received such positive comments for a number of the products from our extensive snack range in the Daily Mirror’s taste test.
“We are always striving to deliver the highest quality snacking products at the best possible price in order to make much loved food items affordable for all of our shoppers.”
