'We spent more on Kepa, Pulisic and Jorginho' - Chelsea fans stunned by Mauro Icardi transfer

Frank Lampard is after a new striker for Chelsea this summer to back up Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham, but it's not going to be Mauro Icardi.

The Argentinian is one of the hottest properties in European football, but this afternoon (Sunday) the striker's permanent move to PSG was confirmed.

The 27-year-old has been on loan in France from Inter Milan for the 2019/20 campaign, netting 12 Ligue 1 goals before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Icardi has been tipped with a move away from Inter for several seasons, despite netting 29 Serie A goals in the 2017/18 campaign and 24 the year before.

However, Icardi suffered a relationship breakdown with the Italian club over his future, and has now completed the switch for £45m, plus a potential £15m sell-on fee.

PSG are set to lose Edininson Cavani this summer on a free with his contract expiring, while Icardi is due to be the new main striker with Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Icardi on several occasions, however never really moved forward with interest for the striker.

And for a lot of Chelsea fans, it seems like a wasted opportunity to get one of the top strikers around.
