We simulated Newcastle United vs Manchester United to get a score prediction

With the international break over, Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday, as they take on Newcastle at St. James Park.

United will be hoping to bounce back from their 6-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur before the international break, with new signing Alex Telles in contention to be involved against the Magpies. However, Edinson Cavani will miss the game as he's still in self-isolation, whilst striker Anthony Martial begins his three-match suspension.

So, what will the final score be? And what team will Solskjaer go with against Newcastle United? We used FIFA 21 to simulate the outcome of this weekend's game.

Manchester United writers discuss whether Solskjaer should drop Harry Maguire for Newcastle

Newcastle vs United score predicted using FIFA 21

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 21 but didn't select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to legendary, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions.

We predict that Newcastle United could set up in a 4-4-2 formation, with the line-up as follows: Darlow; Manquillo, Fernandez, Lascelles, Lewis; Hendrick, Shelvey, Hayden, Saint-Maximin; Wilson, Joelinton.

We predict that United could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; Matic, Fernandes, Pogba; Van de Beek, Greenwood, Rashford.

In our simulated FIFA 21 game, the away side got off to a great start, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side scoring an early goal.

After a fantastic delivery from a corner kick from Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese midfielder's delivery found Harry Maguire, who out-jumped Jamaal Lascelles and powered a header high into the Magpies net.

But United didn't have it all their own way in the first-half, with Callum Wilson finding the net with a brilliant finish from close range, after being played in by Joelinton.

However, the goal was ruled out for offside, with the replays showing that Wilson had strayed slightly into an offside position. A let off for United.

In the second half, the game turned very scrappy, with neither side able to take control. Possession was fairly even throughout the game.

With a few minutes to go, Fernandes could have sealed the game for United, but after finding a bit of space on the area, the midfielder's shot flew just wide of Darlow's far post.

In the end, Maguire's goal was enough for United to win, despite their average performance on the day.

FIFA 21 is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Additionally, fans who jump into FIFA 21 can also benefit from Dual Entitlement, enabling them to upgrade their copy of the game from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S at no extra cost.

All progress made or content acquired within FIFA 21 Ultimate Team (including players, items, coins, FIFA Points, match record, and leaderboard placement), as well as all progression in VOLTA FOOTBALL will transfer over to PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S.
