We simulated Manchester United vs Newcastle United to get a Premier League score prediction

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday, as they take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek both missed United's midweek Europa League clash and are injury doubts ahead of the weekend, with Scott McTominay also a concern having been brought off in the second-half in midweek.

Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial could all return to the starting lineup against the Magpies, particularly with all three not featuring from the start in Turin.

Paul Pogba and Phil Jones will definitely miss out, whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a decision to make in goal, with Dean Henderson earning a clean sheet against Real Sociedad.

So, what line-up will Solskjaer go with against the Magpies? And, what will the final score be?

Ahead of the game, we used FIFA 21 to get a score prediction.

Man United vs Newcastle United score predicted using FIFA 21

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 21 but didn't select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to world class, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions.

We predict that United could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Rashford, Fernandes, Martial; Greenwood

We predict that Newcastle United could set up in a 4-3-1-2 formation, with their line-up as follows: Darlow; Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Lewis; Willock, Hayden, Shelvey; Saint-Maximin, Gayle.

Completely against the run of play, the away side took the lead just four minutes into the game.

Jonjo Shelvey had a bit of space on the left and put in a great ball for Miguel Almiron, who got across Harry Maguire and finished past David De Gea's near-post.

But just before the half-hour mark, United were level through Bruno Fernandes. Some brilliant play from Mason Greenwood, who beat Ciaran Clark with a lovely bit of skill, led to the youngster playing in Fernandes, who smashed his finish past Karl Darlow to make it 1-1.

And United were rewarded for their dominance just before half-time, when they went in front for the first time in the game.

A floated pass from Bruno Fernandes was met first time on the volley by Marcus Rashford, whose effort flew past Darlow and into the back of the net.

The home side were pretty comfortable in the second-half, but were finding it difficult to extend their lead, with the Magpies being pretty solid defensively.

In the final few minutes, Almiron could have made it 2-2, if not for a great save from David De Gea, who made sure United secure the three points at Old Trafford.

FIFA 21 predicts that Manchester United should be able to overcome Newcastle United this weekend, although they may not earn a clean sheet against an unusually ambitious Magpies performance.
