We simulated Manchester United vs AC Milan to get a score prediction

Manchester United continue their Europa League campaign on Thursday evening, as they take on AC Milan at Old Trafford.

United could be without up to eight first team players for the round-of-16 tie, with Paul Pogba, Phil Jones, Donny van de Beek, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata and David de Gea all ruled out through injury, and Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw both doubts.

Milan have a sizeable injury list of their own, with former Red Zlatan Ibrahimovic ruled out, along with Mario Mandzukic, Daniele Bonera, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ante Rebic and Theo Hernandez.

United loanee Diogo Dalot is expect to start for the Italian side on Thursday, along with Chelsea loanee Fikayo Tomori.

So, what line-up will Solskjaer go with against Milan? And, what will the final score be?

Ahead of the game, we used FIFA 21 to get a score prediction.

United vs AC Milan score predicted using FIFA 21

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 21 but didn't select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to world class, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions.

We predict that United could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, Matic; Greenwood, Fernandes, James; Martial.

We predict that AC Milan could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Donnarumma; Kalulu, Tomori, Romagnoli, Dalot; Meite, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Krunic, Castillejo; Leao.

United put in a strong performance and were largely in control of the game, but the chances were few and far between.

The first chance of the game came just before the half-hour mark, with Anthony Martial shooting wide with his left foot from just inside the area.

But just a few minutes later, United found their breakthrough, and it was from a familiar source.

Bruno Fernandes played a brilliant one-two with Martial, receiving the pass just inside the area and finishing clinically into the far corner.

There was very little action in the second-half, and despite Milan having more possession, they weren't able to genuinely test Dean Henderson in the United goal.
