We simulated Liverpool vs Brentford as brilliant goal makes difference without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane

Liverpool return to Premier League action at the weekend as they host Brentford, with the Reds hoping to return to winning ways.

The Reds will be without Thiago Alcantara, Divock Origi, Harvey Elliott and Nat Phillips through injury for the game against Brentford, as well as being without Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita, with the African Cup of Nations still ongoing.

Liverpool's lack of attacking threat against 10-man Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final 0-0 draw on Thursday showed just how much Klopp's side miss Salah, Mane and Keita, but Jurgen Klopp has called for unity among his Liverpool squad as they deal with a difficult period without their Africa Cup of Nations trio.

So, what line-ups will both teams select? And, what could the final score be?

We used FIFA 22 to get a score prediction for Liverpool v Brentford on Sunday and this is what happened...

Liverpool vs Brentford score predicted by simulation

We used kick-off mode in FIFA 22, but didn't select a team to control, we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a score prediction.

We predict that Liverpool could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Jones, Firmino, Jota.

We predict that Brentford could set up in a 5-3-2 formation, with their line-up as follows: Fernandez; Roerslev, Pinnock, Jansson, Sorensen, Canos; Baptiste, Norgaard, Jensen; Mbeumo, Toney.

Liverpool struggled to break down the Brentford defence in the opening 20 minutes, but started to create space and chances once they settled into the game.

The Reds were limited to shots from distance until a brilliant pass from Henderson set Jota in behind the Bees backline, before the Portuguese star fired home a clinical first-time volley into the bottom corner across goal on the stroke of half-time to make it 1-0.

Jota's forward run was picked out by the Reds' captain from deep inside his own half, as Jota shrugged off Ethan Pinnock before volleying a brilliant shot into the bottom right corner of Fernandez's net to put Liverpool 1-0 up heading into the second half.

Brentford responded well after the break with Ivan Toney coming close to an equaliser, but Alisson was equal to the striker's looping header as the Brazilian tipped the ball around the post and behind for a Bees' corner.

Takumi Minamino entered the action in the 68th minute for Curtis Jones, and the Japanese attacker almost doubled the hosts' lead shortly after coming on with an overhead kick, but his effort grazed the crossbar and bounced into the Kop.

The Reds managed to see the game out and return to winning ways in the Premier League, picking up their first clean sheet in the league since the 1-0 win over Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa side.

FIFA 22 predicted final score: Liverpool 1-0 Brentford

Here are the full-time match stats.

FIFA 22 predicts that Liverpool may dominate the game against Brentford, having 14 shots and an xG of 4.9, but only convert one chance into a goal as they struggle to be as clinical without Salah and Mane in attack.

A brilliant Jota goal made the difference, but if Brentford offered any real threat, it could have been a very different result for the Reds.

FIFA 22 is available now on all platforms, including PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
