We simulated Ajax vs Chelsea to get a score prediction for Champions League clash

Chelsea will be looking to build on their Champions League away victory last time out, but will be facing a much stronger opponent tonight in last season's semi-finalists Ajax.

The Blues secured a 2-1 away win at Lille in UCL matchday two, Frank Lampard's first European win as a manager, but Ajax represent a big jump in quality, who possess a number of talented players.

But, Chelsea have talented players of their own, with young stars Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori all in line for starts tonight.

So, what will the final score be against Ajax

And, what XI will Frank Lampard go for against the Dutch side?

We used FIFA 20 to predict the outcome of this midweek Champions League clash.

Ajax vs Chelsea on FIFA 20

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 20 but didn't select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a unique prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to world class, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions.

We predict that Ajax will set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with the line-up as follows: Onana; Dest, Veltman, Blind, Tagliafico; Beek, Martinez; Ziyech, Promes, Neres; Tadic.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

We predict that Chelsea could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with the line-up as follows: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Alonso; Kovacic, Jorginho, Mount; Willian, Abraham, Hudson-Odoi.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

It was clear from the off that this was a game of high quality, with both teams having players capable of dominating possession and controlling the game.

But the theme throughout the game was that both sides constantly battled for control of possession, and this meant the game saw little in goalmouth action, with very few chances to speak of.

But, the first real chance of the game fell to Ajax in the 24th minute, and they took it.

Tagliafico advanced into an attacking position and powered to the byline before putting in a brilliant low cross into the area, where Hakim Ziyech was able to get infront of his marker Fikayo Tomori, before powering a diving header past Kepa and into the Chelsea net.

A real piece of quality from the Dutch side.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

In the second-half, neither side could get any kind of rythm going in possession, because both were pressing intently when they lost the ball, which meant constant turnover and spells of stale possession.

Jorginho in particular was targeted by the Ajax press and couldn't progress the ball forwards as he usually would.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

Chelsea did have a few chances in the second-half, but none of them clear cut, with Hudson-Odoi, Willian and Mount having shots from outside the area that went wide.

Ajax did enough to see the game out, and they secured an important home win.

Full-time score: Ajax 1-0 Chelsea

Here are the full-time match stats.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

Ajax had the majority of possession, but there was only four shots on target in the whole game from both teams, with Ziyech's goal the only moment of quality inside the penalty area.

Ziyech was outstanding on the night and was named MOTM.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

For Chelsea, Kurt Zouma was their most impressive performer, being a commanding presence aerially for the Blues.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

But, Abraham was completely isolated and couldn't get into the game, he was Chelsea's lowest rated player.

(EA SPORTS FIFA)

This FIFA 20 simulation predicts that in what could be a very possession focused game, Ajax will provide the bit of quality that will see them beat Chelsea this evening.

But, as this is only a simulation, lets see what happens for real at the Johan Cruijff ArenA tonight.

What do you think the score will be?
