'We repeatedly warned you' — Cardiff City fans' stark warning to Man Utd playing out as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stands on brink

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might well be staring down the barrel at Manchester United - just like Cardiff City fans warned would happen.

A desperate defeat at the hands of Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday night appears to have pushed the Norwegian to the brink at Old Trafford, with huge speculation over his long-term future at the club.

Of course, there's an argument that the problems go much deeper than the manager, but even those who may have been in Solskjaer's camp will have found Demba Ba's opening goal on Wednesday night hard to stomach.

You can make all the arguments you like about Ed Woodward and his recruitment policies, but none of that excuses the catastrophic levels of defending which allowed the former Newcastle United striker to race away and score.

Ex-United defender Rio Ferdinand was once the most vocal of Solskjaer's supporters, but even he was left in disbelief at a defensive performance which would have made even an out-of-shape Sunday League team blush.

“Where is the organisation in this team? You wouldn’t see this on Hackney Marshes,” he decried.

Many understandably believe the buck stops with the manager.

However, none of this has come as a surprise to Cardiff City fans.

One even tweeted that United's defending is like Cardiff's used to be when Solskjaer was in charge.

Many Bluebirds supporters have persistently reacted with bemusement at the suggestion that the man at the helm during their own relegation from the Premier League is good enough to manage one of the world's biggest clubs.

It's fair to say events of the past week have only further reinforced some of those assessments.

Solskjaer's Cardiff reign was riddled with chaos and confusion. Man Utd, despite their vast resources and some of the top personnel available to the manager, are also struggling badly this season.

Of course, not everyone agrees it's all down to Solskjaer.

Ferdinand's former team-mate Roy Keane has suggested the players need to take more respsonsibility.

"Ole will pay the ultimate price,' Keane said on Sky Sports. "Ole will lose his job working with this group of players as sure as night follows day."

Indeed, United head into this weekend's clash with Everton with Solskjaer seemingly on the brink.

Reports have already suggested Mauricio Pochettino has been sounded out as a possible replacement.

The official party line appears to be that the hierarchy are still behind the manager. The dreaded vote of confidence?

Perhaps.

Needless to say, sympathy in the Welsh capital is likely to be in short supply.
