Female MPs have written to Meghan Markle to "express our solidarity" after she was the target of a series of negative news stories.
In a letter to the Duchess of Sussex, they said: "On occasions, stories and headlines have represented an invasion of your privacy and have sought to cast aspersions on your character, without any good reason as far as we can see."
And they suggested there was an element of racism in the way parts of the media report on the Duchess, telling her: "We are calling out what can only be described as outdated, colonial undertones to some of these stories."
Those signing the letter included Newcastle North MP Catherine McKinnell, Bishop Auckland MP Helen Goodman, City of Durham MP Roberta Blackman-Woods, Washington and Sunderland West MP Sharon Hodgson, Newcastle Central MP Chi Onwurah and Sunderland Central MP Julie Elliott.
In an ITV documentary last week, Harry and Meghan admitted to struggling with media attention.
The Duchess has launched legal action against the Mail on Sunday over a claim that it unlawfully published one of her private letters. It related to a story about her relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, which has been the subject of speculation from parts of the media since before her marriage.
In a statement earlier this month, the Duke of Sussex said he and Meghan were forced to take action against "relentless propaganda".
Prince Harry has also compared the media treatment of his wife to the treatment of his mother, Princess Diana. He said: "I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces."
The letter from MPs states: "As women MPs of all political persuasions, we wanted to express our solidarity with you in taking a stand against the often distasteful and misleading nature of the stories printed in a number of our national newspapers concerning you, your character and your family."
