'We're really motivated to do something' - Jamaal Lascelles reveals Newcastle's restart ambition

Jamaal Lascelles believes Newcastle United are in a strong position to reboot their campaign after Steve Bruce was told he has a clean bill of health for his squad.

United have had confirmation that the season will continue in mid-June with a game against Sheffield United at St James' Park.

Newcastle were sitting in 13th place when the season was suspended following the virus pandemic after a 1-0 win at Southampton put them eight points clear of the drop zone.

Lascelles said: "We want to secure our place and then kick on.

"We have a fully fit squad now and the boys have come back flying, the gaffer is really pleased with everyone.

"We're just looking forward to every training session, every game and of course the FA Cup is still there for us - we are all thinking of that.

"We're just really motivated to do something."

Martin Dubravka, Andy Carroll and Ciaran Clark are all in contention for game-time when play resumes in the top-flight.

It is a pleasing sight for the Toon skipper.

Lascelles added: "We're in a strong position to restart.

"There's always going to be one or two big players that are out injured at crucial times.

"All the teams will be able to play strong teams.

"We've been able to get a few lads back during the lockdown and they've healed up

"They have had a rest and now they have the road ahead and we're raring to go for a good start."
