One of the ACT's most senior detectives has warned criminals police are "one step ahead of you" as COVID-19 lockdowns and travel restrictions increasingly force offenders to take their illicit activities online.
Speaking after his officers arrested Hughes woman Vanessa Lee White for allegedly importing a commercial quantity of drugs using the internet, Detective Superintendent Scott Moller said "organised crime identities across Australia" were increasingly turning to cyberspace.
"But our capability has grown and this [case] is a perfect example of how our capability has grown in identifying those people involved in utilising the dark web or whatever other means to import drugs into Australia," he said.
"My message to those people that are using the dark web [is] we're one step ahead of you, and we will pursue you and put you before the court."

Detective Superintendent Moller said the importation of drugs was "a focus for us at the moment".
He said ACT Policing would work with the Australian Border Force and Australia Post to combat this type of crime.
"Anybody that's thinking [about], or has been, utilising the internet to order drugs, be aware that the AFP is committed ... to intercepting these parcels and investigating all of them," the officer said.
