Rep. Lisa McClain attempted to lecture Democrats about childish insults during an Oct. 29 press conference. And it would’ve been inspiring if her own party leader wasn’t a man who shares AI poop videos and calls people “Crooked,” “Sleepy,” and “Sloppy” before breakfast.
On Wednesday, day 29 of the shutdown, McClain (R-MI) tried to channel the energy of a stern middle-school principal. She pointed her rhetorical finger at Democrats, scolding Rep. Jim McGovern for calling Speaker Mike Johnson “lazy” and “irrelevant.” According to McClain, that kind of name-calling is inappropriate for serious policymakers.
“He can’t beat us on the issues. So he wants to attack our leader, who has done a remarkable job, and personalize it. We’re not in sixth grade anymore. But maybe for some people, they are in sixth grade.”
Yes, you read that right. The party whose flag-bearer calls people “Sleepy Joe,” “Crooked Hillary,” and “Gavin Newscum” is lecturing on the moral dangers of playground politics. What she’s missing is that Donald Trump doesn’t even spare his own party members from his evil insults. One good look at his social media page, and anyone would know McGovern couldn’t match 1% of the MAGA vocabulary.
McClain declared that “We’re not in sixth grade anymore,” and thought she ate. But instead, elected herself class clown. Her lecture might’ve carried more weight if the 79-year-old man-child hadn’t posted an AI poop video to mock his opponents. Or, if her own Speaker weren’t overseeing a caucus that throws tantrums every time the government has to work.
But the lady pressed on. She insisted Republicans had “done their job” and that Democrats were the lazy ones. For republicans, doing their job now means shutting down the government and militarizing states for no reason. So, they’ve been very busy indeed. She even went on to claim that “Mike Johnson has shown leadership, discipline, and focus.”
Are we talking about the same man who’s refusing to do his job and swear Rep. Grijalva for more than a month now? But when McClain’s statement reached social media, she probably got the much-needed reality check.
“If I’m a reporter sitting in that room now, I can’t WAIT to respond and say, ‘Rep. McClain, since you characterize slinging “cheap insults” as being childlike, what do you call trump calling people “Sleepy Joe,” or “Crooked Hillary” or “Gavin Newscum?” That’s low-hanging fruit. Come on, media,” one user wrote on X.
Another jabbed, “She’s giving full-blown Klan Karen. Voice trembling with fake outrage, clutching pearls from Hobby Lobby, acting like she’s the victim while her party sets the country on fire.” We sure hope she read that one. Because no, we’re not in sixth grade anymore. We’re in something worse. It’s a political daycare where bullies run the playground and the grown-ups have long left the room.
