‘We’re not here for a wee pat on the back’: Greg Taylor says Celtic need results to prove they belong at Champions League level

GREG TAYLOR says that only wins will prove that Celtic belong at Champions League level, as the full-back admitted that good performances mean nothing to him without the points to show for their efforts.

Taylor was hugely frustrated once again as Celtic lost out to RB Leipzig despite more than holding their own for large spells of the game in Germany, and says that the players must heed the lessons of their opening three matches quickly if they are to give themselves a chance of progression to the knockout stages of the competition.

“We’re not here to give ourselves a wee pat on the back, we’re here to compete and get points,” Taylor said.

“We need to show that a club this size and belongs - and it does. We need to do that quickly, and no sooner than Tuesday night [when RB Leipzig visit Celtic Park].

“I have said all along that we want to show we can belong at this level. We’ve not done that so far, maybe in dribs and drabs, but realistically that’s not good enough.

“So, we need to do that for a whole collective, not just the performance, but get the result to match it.

“When we stick to our beliefs we are a good side. We showed that again at points tonight, but I’m reluctant to say that that’s good enough, because it’s not.

“We’re a club that has to be winning regardless of the level, and we want to rectify that on Saturday and then move on to Tuesday.

“It’s the biggest level, isn’t it? It’s the best competition in the world.

“We knew that going into the game and it was no different tonight, they had top quality players, but so do we.

“We showed in moments that we have them, but on the night they showed theirs more than ours.”
