A dad has gone viral for explaining why he won't be giving his 15-year-old son presents this Christmas to teach him a lesson.
The father took to Reddit and explained that he needed to get it off his chest that he would not be getting his son anything for December 25th.
That's because his kid spent a considerable amount of money on video game Fortnite without his parents permission.
Hundreds of thousands of people have since seen the man's story and many praised him for trying to discipline his boy.
Speaking on Reddit, he said: "We have a fairly large family, four kids. Our 15 year old son spent $500ish on Fortnite skins/whatever without our permission. He will wake up on Christmas with no presents as payment for this. It’s killing me inside a little since all the other kids will get gifts, but I also think it’s an important lesson for him to learn."
He later added: "This got a lot more attention than I was expecting. Thanks for the awards! A couple of things:
He has been told not to expect presents from us on Christmas. He thinks we’re just threatening that, because we are kind of pushovers.
This is not make or break money for us. I am working on trying to get a refund, but if I don’t, it’s not going to keep us from eating or paying rent or anything like that.
This seems to be a very divisive topic. Either you think the punishment is fair and deserved or you think we’re absolute assholes for even considering it. I get it. There’s not one right answer.
We did have a password for purchases, but he either guessed it or saw one of us inputting it at some time and memorized it. I now get a notification every time my card is used and the card info has been deleted out of the system.
Would you ever do this or have you? Let us know in the comments.
