Oasis is finally back on tour together. With all the conflict between the two brothers who are the soul of the band, some never thought it would ever happen. But it did, and the band’s lead, Liam Gallagher, has one message for fans attending their long-awaited world tour: “We are not Coldplay.”
Liam Gallagher’s candor has often gotten him into trouble. He’s never been shy about criticizing other bands like The 1975, other musicians, footballers, and often even his own brother. Hearing him say something like this at a concert was not the least bit surprising, but this latest swipe at the Chris Martin-led band had nothing to do with musical taste. It seems Liam Gallagher is simply in the camp that isn’t in favor of the public outing of Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and his co-worker who were caught canoodling at Coldplay’s concert.
Let’s face it: we are over-surveilled. It’s not just CEOs in skyboxes trying to hide alleged affairs either; sometimes even people simply trying to have a good and innocent time can’t let loose and dance because the next thing they know, they’ve become a meme for public consumption and critique. The issue is so widespread that Tyler, The Creator released a new dance album and held a listening party where phones were not allowed, and if his X account is any indication, the event went great.

That’s what Liam Gallagher was trying to make a case for here. In his typical foul-mouthed manner, per Yahoo! Liam asked the crowd, “Do we have any lovebirds in the house? Don’t worry, we ain’t got any of that Coldplay, snidey f—— camera s—. It doesn’t matter to us who you’re f—— mingling with, or tingling with, or fingering with. None of our f—— business.”
The Astronomer CEO wasn’t so lucky. Coldplay’s display of his alleged affair not only led to marital woes but has apparently forced him to resign from his post. And, obviously, online there is no clear end to the debate about whether this has gone too far. It’s difficult to assess because it all depends on personal experience. If you have been on the side of the spouse, you would likely favor a sense of retribution for the person who caused international embarrassment to their partner. If you have been on the other side of an affair, you would probably be more empathetic and struggle to understand why someone has to lose their job over it.
Coldplay, on the other hand, has successfully swerved the ongoing debate. Chris Martin himself isn’t having a great time in the romantic department either, so he’s not one to drag the situation further than it needs to go. But, just so everyone knows what they’re signing up for, the band’s verified fan page posted a reminder on X that if you decide to attend a show by the Grammy-winning band, you have consented to being filmed.

The Astronomer CEO’s story has run its course, and undoubtedly, the punishment he received was harsh, but he brought it all on himself.
