'We're killing ourselves' - Chris Wilder on Sheffield United's defensive frailty ahead of Leeds United clash

Chris Wilder fears that Sheffield United are making it 'too easy' for teams to score against them as he prepares to face Leeds United this weekend.

The Blades will host Marcelo Bielsa's side at Bramall Lane on Sunday lunchtime having lost their first two Premier League outings of the season, without scoring a goal in the process.

In contrast, no team have scored more than the seven goals the Whites have plundered in their first two fixtures back in the top flight and Wilder knows that his side must tighten up at the back.

"We went 2-0 down early against Wolves, not from unbelievable creativity from a very good side," Wilder said following Monday evening's defeat to Aston Villa.

"We gifted them two goals. And at Villa, it's not a well-worked goal. We're killing ourselves. If Jack Grealish beats three players and sticks the ball into the top corner, then that's a great goal.

"If we get done on the counter-attack, because we've been ambitious going the other way, you can semi-accept that. But I can't accept the gifts of goals we're giving.

"We're not one of the top sides, so we can't look at the fixture list and say 'we'll win this game and that one'. We've got to get over the hurdles in front of us, and we're making it too easy for teams in terms of the goals they're scoring against us."

The Blades will look to arrest this slow start when they host Yorkshire rivals Leeds for the first time in the Premier League since 1994 and Wilder is in doubt have big the game will be.

"We weren’t planning on not picking up a point in the first two games but you have to get over it. We have to overcome the hurdle and believe in what we are doing," he added.

"We have to tighten up on a few things. It’s not the Championship where you look at the fixture list and you can go on a run of three, four and five, this is Premier League football and the challenge at the weekend is a huge one.

"We have to look at ourselves and do so much better in a lot of things. There was a lot of good things out there tonight, not getting away from that.

"We we will be working extremely hard in the week to set us up for a tasty game at the weekend."
