Dramatic footage of a police chase in Wollongong, south of Sydney, has been released showing two wanted men pursued by police on foot and by helicopter.
After four days of several armed robberies, aggravated break and enters and carjackings across the Riverina, two men were arrested after a pursuit ending in a canal about 11:00am.
Today the pair, aged 24 and 26, sped through the streets of Figtree, swerving around corners, crashing into barricades, jumping over obstacles, before they set off on foot into bushland.
"We're going to be out of work here cause we're going to lose 'em," one officer is heard saying in a video released by NSW Police.
Polair followed the action from above, while police on the ground intercepted the pair just as they began wading through the canal water in a desperate bid to flee.
Eventually the men surrendered, raising their arms in the air as police wrestled them to the ground.
Just prior to the pursuit, police allege the pair were in a stolen car at Picton, south-west of Sydney, when they mounted a kerb and ran over an electrical substation, causing a loss of power in the area.
Officers were also waved down by a woman in the car park of a nearby shopping centre, after she and her elderly parents had been confronted by the two men.
It is alleged the men removed them from their car before driving away.
Pair rammed police car in weekend pursuit
Over the weekend, a number of violent incidents occurred in Griffith, Cootamundra, Wagga Wagga and the Southern Highlands which police allege the same two men were behind.
On Sunday, it is alleged a woman was hit in the stomach with the end of a firearm during an aggravated break and enter at Yanco.
Later that evening, police attempted to stop the men who were travelling along the Hume Motorway at Mittagong, and they rammed a marked police car at Colo Vale after a pursuit.
The men ran into nearby bushland and a woman who was also travelling in the car was arrested.
The men now are assisting police with enquiries at Wollongong Police Station.
Detectives from the Griffith Local Area Command in the Riverina region have established Strike Force Carolan and are liaising with other commands to investigate all incidents.
