"We're going to get into trouble" - Dr Hilary Jones issues urgent warning about rushing back to offices

Dr Hilary Jones has issued a warning about rushing back to the office after Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for people to return to their workspaces to help the economy.

During a 'People's PMQs' session, Mr Johnson said: “I do want people to start to go back to work now if you can.

“I want people to go back to work as carefully as possible.

“It's very important that people should be going back to work if they can now.

He added: "I think everybody has sort of taken the 'stay at home if you can'.

“I think we should now say, well, 'Go back to work if you can', because I think it's very important that people should try to lead their lives more normally.

"I want to see more people feeling confident to use the shops, use the restaurants, and get back into work – but only if we all follow the guidance."

But the UK's Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance has counteracted the advice, saying that there is 'absolutely no reason to change' the advice.

"We’re still at a time when distancing measures are important. It remains a perfectly good option, it’s easy to do," he said.

Now, Good Morning Britain's Dr Hilary has also issued a warning against the advice to get back to work.

He said: "If we look around us the last few weeks, you can see a gradual busying of the roads again, there are more cars on the roads, there are more people using public transport.

"Whilst it's happened fairly gradually, if we all rush back now, and there are millions of people still working from home, if there's too much of a rush then we're going to get into trouble and see a second wave.

"That's what we need to avoid."

The Prime Minister is expected to give an update on the Government's advice for working from home today (July 17).

Mr Johnson is expected to set out a roadmap of how staff can get back to the office over the next nine months.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV at 6am.
