'We're finished': Raphael Varane injury has Manchester United fans fearing the worst

Manchester United fans were on Sunday fearing the worst after seeing Raphael Varane forced off with an injury while playing for France.

Varane went down holding his leg at the end of the first half against Spain in the UEFA Nations League final, though an official diagnosis remains unknown at the time of writing.

However, this hasn't stopped United fans taking to social media to express concern over United's summer signing from Real Madrid and a possible significant period on the sidelines.

Some supporters were more hopeful, hoping that it wasn't real or that it wasn't anything too serious, while one simple put "we're finished."

One tweeted: "Do not tell me varane is injured."

"Varane will be fine," one Twitter user said, while another added: "Varane injured.. Hope it's nothing bad."

One fan summed up the injury malaise with: "Wait Maguire and Varane injured? We are finished."

The injury occurred when Varane was trying to stop a cross, though it is currently unknown whether he hurt himself then or in the build-up to that.

Varane has impressed at the back for United, not only making crucial tackles and blocks but has an assist to his name as well.

With United captain Harry Maguire currently injured, manager Ole Gunnar Soslkjaer could be forced to play Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly against Leicester City on October 16.

Bailly has impressed when playing Leicester and Jamie Vardy, with one Twitter user tweeting: "Bailly has bullied Vardy every single time he’s played against him. There’s evidence to suggest Vardy hates playing against him… but he would probably be injured now before the Leicester game."
