'We're all so worried about him': Family's plea to find missing granddad last seen over a week ago

The nephew of a north Manchester man who has been missing for over a week has issued a heartfelt plea for help finding him.

John Houghton, 55, was last seen at the Quadrant, in Blackley, in the early hours of Sunday, September 12.

He is also known to regularly visit Oldham, and was seen in the Limeside area of the town on the Wednesday before his disappearance.

John's nephew Ryan Houghton, from Oldham, says the disappearance has come as a shock and his family are desperate to see him return home.

Ryan, 28, told the Manchester Evening News : "We just want him to be found and to make sure he is safe.

"He has nephews, grandkids, brothers and sisters - there is a family here that cares about him.

"We're all so worried. He has never done anything like this before."

Ryan says that John often wears a hat and can be seen carrying a rucksack.

Greater Manchester Police is becoming increasingly concerned about John, who is described as a 'high-risk missing person'.

Officers say it is not known what John was wearing on the day of his disappearance, but he is believed to be on his own.

He suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) - a lung condition which means he has difficulty breathing.

In a fresh appeal issued today (September 20), a spokesperson for GMP Manchester North wrote on Facebook: "John has now been missing for over a week and we along with his friends are extremely concerned for his welfare.

"John has not been seen since the September 12, 2021, and has not been in touch with any of his friends since then."

Anyone with information on John's whereabouts can call PC Helen McNeill on 07584 224 903 or PC Dave Frame on 07393 781 595.

Alternatively ring the sergeant's office on 0161 856 4024, call GMP on 101, or contact the force online with reference MSP/06A1/2742/21.
