'We’re all looking forward to it' - Jamaal Lascelles reacts to Steve Bruce's Newcastle United appointment

Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has urged everyone to 'stick together' following the appointment of Steve Bruce as head coach.

The centre-back played the first 45 minutes of the 4-0 defeat to Wolves in the Premier League Asia Cup, and prior to kick-off shared his view on Bruce being confirmed as Rafa Benitez's replacement.

"We’re all looking forward to it. We’ve been waiting for him to come in. There’s been speculation and now it’s confirmed, we’re pleased and we’re looking forward to it.

“He’s a very well-known manager who’s done well in the Premier League and the Championship.

“We’ve been working hard with Ben [Dawson] and Neil [Redfearn] – they’ve done a great job and the rest of the staff have helped us out as well.

“Now the manager has come in, we’re really looking forward to it.”

However United fans are not impressed with the appointment, and a boycott of the opening game of the season against Arsenal is being planned.

But Lascelles wants to see a united front going into the new season - feeling that is the best way to approach the campaign.

"I’ve always said it," he told Sky Sports.

"We’ve just got to stick together as one, that’s the best thing we can do.

“We can’t go pointing a finger or having a go at anyone, we’ve just got to stick together, that’s the best way.”
