'We prefer Merseyside Red' - NBA outfit send Liverpool message to Arsenal

The Toronto Raptors have taken to social media to show their support for Liverpool following Arsenal’s win over Tottenham in the North London derby.

The Gunners got the better of their arch-rivals for the first time since December 2018 on Sunday afternoon, winning 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

After falling behind to Erik Lamela's breathtaking stunning opener, Mikel Arteta’s side hit-back when Martin Odegaard turned home Kieran Tierney's cross a minute before the half-time interval.

The Gunners then completed the turnaround on 64 minutes when Spurs centre-back Davinson Sanchez was found guilty of bringing Alexandre Lacazette down inside the penalty area.

After a VAR review, the penalty was confirmed and the Frenchman picked himself up to dispatch the spotkick past Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

And after the game, the NBA team’s official Twitter account responded to a tweet by B/R Football to show their support for Liverpool.

After B/R Football claimed 'North London is red' - the raptors responded with: 'We prefer Merseyside Red.'

The Reds already have Basketball superstar LeBron James has as one of its biggest supporters.

The LA Lakers star owns a minority stake in the Anfield club and has close ties to owners Fenway Sports Group.

He's also represented by Liverpool's new kit manufacturer Nike, and it's expected that the Reds will look to tap into James' popularity in the USA as a means of promoting the club in America.

James has been to Anfield on several occasions and has reiterated his affection for the club in a live Instagram Q&A in March of last year.

Asked what were his favourite footballers, he said: "Favourite soccer players ... I got a few. First of all, every player on Liverpool. Straight up. Every player on Liverpool."

While the US superstar also shared a special message on social media following Liverpool’s Premier League title win last year.

LeBron, who has won three NBA championships, wrote: 'PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET’S GO @LFC #YNWA.'
