'We never gave up' Scots family delighted as beloved dog who vanished on walk two weeks ago is brought home

A Scots woman has been reunited with her beloved dog after the pooch ran off on a walk and was missing for nearly two weeks.

Olivia Blackwood was 'lost for words' when her one-year-old grizzle border terrier Eddy 'wandered off' while out exercising on January 15.

The 22-year-old and mum Fiona scoured the local area around their home in Mainsriddle in Dumfries and Galloway and were 'fearing the worst' for their furry companion.

But despite being missing for so long the family were delighted to get a text from a local farm on Tuesday to say Eddy had been found completely unharmed.

Olivia told the Daily Record: "It’s such great news, we couldn’t believe that he turned up after all that time and unharmed.

"We lost him on January 15, he was on a walk with my mum, Fiona, on the Portling to Rockcliffe walk.

"Eddy wandered off half way through the walk-he’s never ran off before and it’s a familiar walk so it was strange that he did so- border terriers do have a reputation for going walk about though.

"From then on, all of my family were out every day and received so much help from the Dumfries and Galloway Lost Dogs page of Facebook...

"Eddy wandered into a farm steading in Rockcliffe on Tuesday afternoon and the people there text me to say they may have Eddy.

"I phoned to confirm where they stayed and we went to pick him up.

"A quick visit to the vets to confirm that he was fine and he’s now safely back at home."

Earlier this month there was joy for another Scots family after they were reunited with their dog who was missing for three months.

Skye, the cocker spaniel, was nabbed from the back garden kennels in Fordoun, Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire in November and had not been seen since.

But cops searched an address in Brechin and found the dog around ten miles from home.

Olivia said the family home had not been the same since Eddy disappeared and the family were over the moon to have him back.

She said: "We were all lost for words on Tuesday when we realised that we would have him back home. It’s not been the same without him.

"You always fear the worse, especially as that area is such difficult terrain due to all the gorse bushes and badger sets but we remained positive and never stopped looking.

"The support from people online as well as from the local community was an amazing boost to not give up the search."
