We Need To Talk About These 7 Aldi Dupes That Are Better Than The Name Brand

The German discount grocer Aldi has built a fanatical following for its high-quality, private-label products. The store is filled with “dupes,” or duplicates, that are designed to look and taste like their more expensive, brand-name counterparts. While some of these dupes are just a good value, a few have achieved a legendary status. These are the Aldi products that are so good, many shoppers will argue that they are actually better than the original.

1. The “Red Bag” Chicken (vs. Chick-fil-A)

This is the most famous and beloved Aldi dupe of all. The store sells a simple, frozen product in a red bag that is officially called “Kirkwood Breaded Chicken Fillets.” However, its fans know it by a different name: “Red Bag Chicken.” They swear that when you cook these fillets in an air fryer, they taste almost identical to a classic Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich, and at a fraction of the cost.

2. The Peanut Butter Cups (vs. Reese’s)

The “Choceur” brand of peanut butter cups is another Aldi product with a massive cult following. Many candy lovers will argue that they are far superior to the iconic Reese’s brand. The Aldi version has a thicker, richer chocolate shell. It also has a creamier and less gritty peanut butter filling. For many, once they have tried the Aldi version, there is no going back.

3. The German Chocolates (vs. Premium European Brands)

Aldi is a German company, so it is no surprise that its selection of German chocolates is excellent. The store’s “Choceur” and “Moser Roth” brands offer a wide variety of high-quality chocolate bars and truffles. These chocolates are often made in Europe. They are frequently rated as being just as good, if not better, than the much more expensive premium brands like Lindt.

4. The Brioche Breads

The brioche bread products at Aldi are another fan favorite. The store sells a variety of brioche loaves, buns, and rolls under its “Specially Selected” brand. These products are praised for their soft, pillowy texture and their rich, buttery flavor. Many shoppers consider them to be a much better value and of a higher quality than the similar products sold at a traditional supermarket bakery.

5. The “Simply Nature” Organic Products

Aldi’s “Simply Nature” line is its private-label brand for organic and “clean label” products. This brand consistently wins awards and high marks in consumer taste tests. The Simply Nature organic tortilla chips, for example, are a huge hit. They are often compared very favorably to the much more expensive organic chips from a brand like Late July.

6. The Take-and-Bake Pizzas

The take-and-bake pizzas from Aldi, sold under the “Mama Cozzi’s” brand, are another product that has a massive following. These large, fresh, and ready-to-bake pizzas are a fantastic value. They are loaded with toppings. Many families will argue that they are a much better and more affordable option for a Friday pizza night than the more expensive take-and-bake pizzas from a brand like Papa Murphy’s.

7. The Winking Owl Wine

The Winking Owl wine is a legendary Aldi product. It is a line of wines that sells for an incredibly low price, often less than four dollars a bottle. While no one would call it a fine wine, it is widely considered to be shockingly good for its price. It has become a go-to, budget-friendly choice for a simple weeknight glass of wine.

The Aldi Advantage

The success of these Aldi dupes is a testament to the company’s unique and powerful business model. By focusing almost exclusively on its own private-label brands, Aldi can have a huge amount of control over the quality and the cost of its products. This allows them to create a line of “dupes” that are not just cheap imitations. They are often a genuinely superior product that creates a fierce sense of customer loyalty.
