‘We need to stop being polite’: Southwest passenger issues warning after male seatmate got ‘touchy’ with her. Here’s how to get a flight attendant to help

A woman on TikTok says she was harassed while sharing a Southwest Airlines flight with a man she had just met. The reason? She didn’t talk to him despite his constant pestering.

Megriella Moose (@megriellamoose), a TikTok creator with more than 13,000 followers, shared her experience with a man who persistently tried to talk to her on a flight. He attempted to convince her to order an alcoholic drink despite her repeated efforts to ignore him. Moose texted her family to let them know she felt uncomfortable, but said she didn’t believe he meant any harm at the time, referring to it as a “yellow alert.”

The man began to manspread, she says, sitting with his legs wide apart and encroaching on Moose’s personal space as she sat in a window seat. He continued to order drinks, which made Moose even more uneasy. At one point, the man allegedly moved his hand under her thigh. Moose tried to switch seats with her family to escape the situation.

Her mother eventually took her seat and spoke with the man briefly before the flight landed. During the conversation, he reportedly remarked that Moose “might have [him] arrested” for speaking to her, hinting at awareness of his inappropriate behavior.

A Southwest Airlines flight attendant offers advice

After the incident, Moose spoke with a flight attendant, who recommended writing a note on a napkin to discreetly request a seat change in situations like this.

“That is good information to know, because I did not know that,” Moose said in her video.

She later posted, “Thank you to @Southwest Airlines flight attendants for helping me know what to do if I’m in a situation like this again. [I] hope this helps someone out, although I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else. This experience now may make me an aisle seat sitter.”

Viewers are outraged on Moose’s behalf

Commenters on Moose’s video weighed in, with some questioning why she froze during the encounter. Others quickly defended her reaction.

“I see a lot of comments saying ‘cause a scene,’ and as someone who has both fought and frozen in bad situations — freezing HAPPENS! And you cannot blame yourself when it happens,” user @Lily Williams commented.

Another commenter, @Lexi Twist, added, “Why are we excusing him for social cues? Your dad should have immediately switched. Maybe I’m just paranoid but I wouldn’t have sat there and dealt with that.”

Moose responded to that comment, saying, “It’s hard to know how to react once you’re in the moment! I was unprepared for that and not thinking super clearly.”
