"We need more businesses to invest" - speaking to general election voters in Lincoln

In Lincoln the main concern for people was the NHS, education, taxes and Brexit.

The city has been marginal seat since 2015, when it was under Conservative control.

They had 19,976 and Labour had 18,533.

In the 2017 General Election , Labour gained control from the Conservatives with 23,333 and the Tories with 21,795.

Jeff Polski, retired secondary school teacher now working in travel

I will be voting Labour, I am not impressed with Boris.

As a former secondary school teacher, education is very important for me. I have three grandchildren, one of them has recently finished school and has got an apprenticeship.

We need more businesses to invest in education, so avenues like apprenticeships are more available.

Back when I was a teacher you had top end schools for people who were Oxford ready and then schools for the road sweepers, but now children have the option to go to nearby schools but also private schools, so there is more choice but not everybody is academic.

That is why we need more businesses to invest, so young people have the option to choose an apprenticeship.

It would be good if more funding went into the NHS because as I have got older I have needed to visit a little more regularly.

When I was young there was only the National Health Service not any private hospitals, like there is now, but we need more funding to go into the NHS.

Hazel Barrett, 59, shop assistant

I will most definitely be voting Labour, I can’t stand Boris or his party.

He is trying to cover up his previous errors.

But Corbyn is a people person, he maybe a school boy like many politicians, but he is a regular person living a regular life in regular houses like the rest of us.

One of the policies which is probably the most important for me is taxes.

People on high incomes need to be paying more taxes.

My husband, who is semi-retired earns a decent wage, he pays his high taxes but he is a very giving person, he helps a lot of people.

The Government also needs to stop the privatisation of the NHS, Labour are trying to bring it back and save it.

Sophie Cartwright, 27, shop assistant

This election I will be voting Labour but I do think if Corbyn expresses himself better, he could get more followers.

I don’t agree with Boris’ policies, he seems to be very loud with empty promises.

There are many policies that concern me like the NHS, taxes, employment and investment in businesses.

Shop rates have gone up in Lincoln and there are many empty shops now in Lincoln city centre.

My partner had to ring for a GP appointment but he could not get an appointment for four weeks, so more should be invested in the NHS.

Colin Vickers, 75, farm manager from Wood Hill

I am sick to death of both parties.

I have always been a Conservative voter, my whole life, but this is the first time I will be voting for the Liberals.

It all started for Boris when he was Mayor and it was then the three runways at Heathrow and Stansted were proposed, but then they got pulled, but I think we could have done with one at Stansted, there was the room and it had enough car parking space.

Cameron was also against the runway expansions. The Liberals are in favour of scrapping Brexit .

The NHS has always been good to me, about 70% of staff at our local hospital are not British born, they come here and work hard.

Brexit will stop the Freedom of Movement. I also worry about the future of my daughter and grandchildren.

Valerie Ronald, 70, former missionary worker in Africa and now retired from North Hykeham

My granddad was a communist, and my mum and dad were followers of Tony Blair but I will be voting Conservatives.

My biggest grievance is how the political parties don’t spend public money properly, they don’t care because it is not their money.

My husband is Jewish and I am Christian, we don’t agree with Corbyn.
