'We need bikes more than ever': charity appeals to people in Edinburgh to donate bicycles for refugees

A Scottish charity is appealing to people in Edinburgh to donate bikes for refugees and asylum seekers living in the capital.

Bikes for Refugees is a volunteer led project that has been operating since 2016 and has since refurbished and distributed over 350 donated bikes for "new Scots".

They aim to support the social inclusion and integration of refugees and asylum seekers across Scotland by helping them access services and make important connections with communities through free bikes.

The charity say bikes can transform lives by helping refugees explore their new surroundings.

The charity have refurbished hundreds of bikes (Bikes for Refugees/ Facebook)

This month they have issued an renewed appeal to people in Edinburgh, writing: "We need bikes more than ever for our Glasgow and Edinburgh Hubs.

"If you can donate a bike we would love to hear from you - give our new Scots friends the freedom of movement, helping to connect with essential services, meet new people and make new friends!"

As well as bikes, the charity welcome bike accessories, such as panniers, lights, and bike locks.

How do I donate?
