We must cope with further restrictions if they are needed to beat coronavirus

The possibility of further coronavirus restrictions starting this week will leave all of us disappointed.

With the October school break almost upon us, families will likely have made plans to make the most of a difficult situation.

If you had pinned your hopes on things getting easier any time soon, it looks as if things are probably going to get worse.

The closure of pubs and restrictions on the opening of restaurants would not only be a blow for those employed in the hospitality sector.

If taken, these steps will have an impact on communities across the country where people will be unable to get out of the house for a couple of hours to socialise with a friend or relative.

A ban on contact sports will be a blow to clubs all over Scotland.

The last six months have been hard on all of us and it is all too tempting to lose patience with these restrictions and those imposing them on us.

But while the situation may not as bad as it was in March – when a strict lockdown was enforced – each day we can see the number of infections is rising.

The Daily Record has consistently supported science-led advice and legislation on dealing with Covid-19.

If coping with further restrictions and making more sacrifices is needed to beat the virus and save lives, then that is what we have to do.
