'We made them look ordinary' - Hartlepool caretaker boss thrilled with Notts County display

Hartlepool boss Anthony Sweeney was proud of his side's performance at  Notts County and insisted they made Neal Ardley's team "look ordinary".

The two sides fought out a 2-2 draw at Meadow Lane where Neal Ardley's side fought back from two goals down to take a point.

Hartlepool were excellent in the first half and reflecting on what was a dramatic afternoon, Sweeney was thrilled with what he witnessed.

“It doesn’t seem like we’ve dropped two points," he said.

"You can never be 100 per cent pleased when you draw having led so convincingly, however, on the balance of the play it was probably the right result. You have to take your medicine.

“It was a roller coaster of a game in what was a proper football match.

"We found the second half tough, but credit to our lads, they made Notts look ordinary.

"That performance exceeded how I wanted my game plan to look.”

Pools are still unbeaten under caretaker boss Sweeney and he felt the standard between the sides was way above the quality often seen in non-league.

“It was a proper football game," he said.

"It could have been a League One fixture. I was really proud to lead the team and of the players who made us proud as coaching staff.”
