We looked for the best Tesco Clubcard deals and there were some insane differences in prices

Last month Tesco shoppers slammed the store's variation in prices between a regular retail price for a product versus the price for Clubcard holders.

So Bristol Live decided to go out and hunt for some bargains, to see just how much you can save with a Clubcard - and some of what we found shocked us massively. From alcohol and coffee, to water filters and even mobile phone contracts, some of what can be discounted for Clubcard holders may not be things you'd expect.

Deals on alcohol might not come as a surprise, as no doubt shoppers are used to seeing price differences for their favourite beers and spirits - we certainly found some differences, usually of around £2/ £3, however a 70cl bottle of Brockmans Gin was priced at £34, with a Clubcard price of just £28 and a 500ml bottle of raspberry Kopparberg cider costs £2.20 in Tesco, but with a Clubcard, you can grab three (of any flavour) for £5.

A litre bottle of Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey would usually cost you £32, while with a Clubcard it is just £25 and a 250ml can of Malibu Coconut Rum & Pineapple drink (1.95 each usually) is in a Clubcard deal where you can grab any four selected pre-mix cans for three.

And, while there were plenty of discounts for Clubcard holders when it came to various other alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and teas, too, if you're a coffee drinker you'd probably be shocked to see that a 100 gram pack of Costa Instant Coffee Intense Dark Roast costs £5.50 usually, but just £2.90 for Clubcard holders - a difference of £2.60. Costa Coffee Mocha Italia Dolce Gusto packs are £2 for Clubcard holders too - and £4.50 for those without a Clubcard.

Nescafe Dolce Gusto Americano Pods (a pack of 16/128g) were also on the shelves for a regular price of £3.50, next to a sign which stated that the Clubcard price meant you could get any three Dolce Gusto pod packs of the same size in a three for £9 deal. Even a pack of Brita water filter cartridges is far cheaper for Clubcard holders - usually priced at £16 (for a pack of three), Clubcard holders only have to pay £10.50. That's over a fiver back in your pocket!

You can even get a substantial discount on the price of your Tesco phone bill - A promotional poster in store for a Samsung Galaxy A53 5G phone contract states that you can save £216. The regular price is £30.99 a month, however with a Clubcard you pay just £24.99 - a bargain. And for those gardeners out there, a 40L pack of Levington Compost (priced at £4) is in a deal for Clubcard holders where you can bag (literally) two for £6.

You even save almost £2 off of a pack of toilet roll (which would have been handy in the pandemic days of toilet paper buying in bulk, wouldn't it) - a pack of 16 quilted Andrex toilet rolls would usually cost £10.40, but the Clubcard cost is £8.50. You also save £2 on branded dishwasher tablets, including Fairy and Finish, as well as money off washing machine pods, liquids and even hair unblocker for your drains!

Where many of us spend a fortune on hair products, especially shampoos and conditioners, Tesco Clubcard holders get those in the Argan Oil of Morocco range for half price at just £3.50, instead of £7. Always sanitary products were in an "any 3 for £4" deal too - where their regular price would be £1.50 each - a godsend for that time of the month.

Listerine Advanced Whitening mouthwash (originally priced at £5.40) is just £3.60 for Clubcard holders, who we can now identify as the ones with really sparkling pearly-white teeth! Other oral health and dental care products were also included in Clubcard deals and discounts too, including toothpastes at around half price.

A pack of 16 Huggies Drynites pyjama pants (for ages 3-5) are usually £6.50 but are in a deal which will see parents with a Clubcard bag any three for £18.

Food-wise, how about a Pizza Express La Reine Classic 290g pizza for £3 instead of £5, paired with some Pizza Express Dough Balls (200g) for £1.50 instead of £3? Or a Wicked Kitchen meal deal, which includes a main, side and dessert, for just £8 (only with a Clubcard).

You could also get a Tesco Beef Lasagne (400g) which is normally priced at £2.80, in a Clubcard deal which sees you get any three selected Tesco ready meals between 340g and 450g for £7. There are even a number of other meal deals from Tesco, which allow you to pick up either two pizzas, two sides and a dip stacker, two mains, two sides/or desserts or two mains and three extras (among other options), for £12. Again this deal is only for Clubcard holders.

Even a tin of Heinz Baked Beans is involved in the deals - a tin would usually cost £1 but for Clubcard holders you can grab six for £3.50.

Previously, a Tesco spokesperson said: “Through Clubcard Prices, we’re giving more than 20 million customers access to thousands of exclusive deals on everything from everyday staples like fruit and veg to treats like prosecco and ice-cream.

“It’s easy and free to sign up, and customers can register on the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app, website or in store to start saving straight away.”
