Jared Leto has leaned into the frenzy surrounding one of his lines in the new cut of Justice League.
The first trailer of Zack Snyder’s four-hour version of the DC superhero mashup was released on Sunday (14 February).
Those who watched it were surprised by the inclusion of a certain line of dialogue spoken by Leto’s Joker at the end.
As he appears on screen, he can be heard saying: “We live in a society”.
This particular line of dialogue has become a popular Joker meme over the past few years, and is used as a sarcastic means to express dissatisfaction with something that has happened in the world.

Its inclusion in the new cut of Justice League marks the first time the Joker has uttered the line, with many hoping Joaquin Phoenix would say it in 2019’s Oscar-winning film Joker.
Leto shared the trailer shortly after it was released, writing out the particular line on his Twitter page.
Naturally, it’s all Justice League fans could talk about, with many sharing their reactions on social media.
Leto first appeared as the Joker in David Ayer’s 2016 film Suicide Squad.
He never appeared in the theatrical release of Justice League, which was directed by Joss Whedon after Snyder decided to step away to deal with a family tragedy.
Leto’s full line in the film is: “We live in a society where honour is a distant memory. Isn’t that right, Batman?”
Snyder’s new cut of Justice League will be released on HBO Max on 18 March. A UK broadcast date is yet to be announced.
