A man is obsessed with this woman and not in the cute way, but in a make-your-skin-crawl stalking way. What he sent her will send shivers down your spine.
Man sends a suspicious care package
In a viral video with more than 2.9 million views, artist Maria (@barelyemployed) shared the unsettling package her friend got from a man she used to talk to.
“She let it sit for a week before finally getting it off her porch,” Maria said in the caption.
In the video, Maria is on a FaceTime call with her best friend after she brought in the package from outside.
Maria explained that her friend only talked to the guy for about a month before cutting things off, so it’s strange that he’s sending her a package after that.
“Before she blocked him, he was sending 100s of messages & voice messages and showed up to her house twice,” Maria shared.
In the box were a bunch of, frankly, odd and uncomfortable things:
- The book Don’t Believe Everything You Think, which he wrote a note in and fully annotated and highlighted.
- A candle that said “I Owe You an Apology”—not sure what an apology is supposed to smell like
- Supplements, including one jar for brain health
- Beware, this one is extra scary: A blanket with a picture from inside her house on it. When Maria’s friend sees this, she’s visibly shaken and surprised.
- A hanging cat accessory
- A sound recorder with multiple recordings and headphones, and a note instructing her to listen to them “fully and in order.”
Maria has yet to post a follow-up video, so it’s unclear if her friend took any action against those who crossed the boundary into stalking.
What is stalking?
Stalking is a repeated pattern of unwanted attention, harassment, and contact directed at a specific person. This behavior causes the recipient to be fearful and uncomfortable, according to RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-violence organization.
What to do if you’re being stalked
If you’re being stalked like Maria’s friend, you may not know how to respond to the situation.
According to SPARC (Stalking Prevention, Awareness, & Resource Center), some stalking victims try reasoning or placating their stalker in hopes that it’ll get them to stop, others try to minimize the experience, and some may confront or threaten the person in an effort to fight back.
If you’re in this situation, SPARC recommends that you trust your instincts and call the police. You should also keep a record of each contact and save any evidence (like texts or photos) you have.
You can also get in contact with a local victim service provider.
The laws surrounding stalking and what qualifies as such differ from state to state.
Viewers are horrified at the stalking
“We listen and we call the police,” the top comment with more than 140,000 views read.
“As a therapist with experience in domestic violence, I am BEGGING you. If this is real, please go to the police. Document everything. Ask for a restraining order. Research security measures for your space and take this seriously,” a person advised.
“Girl you better PROTECT YOURSELF!!! the blanket was scary as hell,” another wrote.
“Make sure that there’s no air tags or microphones hidden in anything,” a commenter pointed out.
