'We know how quickly thing can change' - Andy Townsend suggests Newcastle fans might turn on Rafa Benitez

Newcastle United haven't won an away game in the Premier League in 2019 as Rafa Benitez looks to secure the club's top flight status.

The Magpies have struggled on the road throughout the season - only two wins out of 16 played, losing seven (not included Leicester).

Those wins game against Burnley and Huddersfield - with draws collected against Cardiff, Crystal Palace, Everton, Wolves and Bournemouth.

Benitez has been accused of setting up negatively by some sections of the media, and BBC 5 Live pundit Andy Towsend has suggested that United fans may eventually lose patient with the manager's set-up.

"Whenever I have watched Newcastle away from home against any of the better teams," Townsend told BBC 5 Live at the King Power Stadium.

"They have just not been programmed to play the way the fans expect.

"Even though they adore Rafa Benitez right now, we know how quickly things can change in football."

Benitez's contract is up at the end of the season, and he is 'waiting' for an answer from the club's hierarchy on certain issues before committing to a new deal.
