'We keep getting mocked over our baby's name - people say it sounds like a truck'

Coming up with baby names is hard work, and sadly, the chances are you're never going to pick something that's liked by everyone.

However, one couple was not prepared for the barrage of abuse they would face, after taking to TikTok to announce the name of their baby boy.

Erin Elizabeth and her husband took to the app to excitedly share the news they had chosen to name their newborn son 'Van'.

In the clip, the parents can be seen taking three blue balloons and using a black marker pen to write down the letters one by one, slowly revealing the unusual name.

"We can’t wait to meet you Van Douglas," Erin wrote, alongside the clip posted from her handle @wink_and_a_twirl.

Many other TikTok users were quick to rush and congratulate the happy couple, but unfortunately, not everyone was feeling so supportive.

One user commented, "Van like the shoe?" to which another replied, "Like the car." A third simply wrote: "Mini van."

"My fiancé always says 'not a truck but a Van' when people confuse it with Dan," a fourth commented.

Luckily, many more TikTokers were quick to share their appreciation for the name, with one commenting, "My best friend passed away two years ago and left behind two children and her son is named Van... I love this name."

Another added: "Such a sweet name, I love it!"

Erin and her partner candidly shared their pregnancy journey on the app, revealing they had chosen to have their son by surrogacy following four heartbreaking miscarriages.
