'We invested a hell of a lot of money in him': Steve Bruce on Joelinton's struggles

Steve Bruce says that his Newcastle United players aren't doing enough to provide Joelinton and Miguel Almiron with service.

Both the Brazilian and Paraguay international failed to notch once again in the Premier League at St James' Park, and Bruce looked a concerned man as his side could only register a point at home to Wolves.

Joelinton was taken off as .

Bruce said: "All forwards thrive off opportunities and chances, and in the second half in particular, we haven’t done enough to try to help them in that respect.

"It’s the same with all of them.

"I’m going to face the same questions with Almiron now, I would think for the next couple of weeks in particular. "We’ve invested a hell of a lot of money in the boy.

"He’s young, trying to get used to the Premier League, and how often have we seen it?

"We’ll have to be patient with him and try to protect him, and there’s no doubt he’s a good player.

"At the moment, he’s finding it tough, but then again, that’s what the Premier League is.

"It’s tough and uncompromising."

Bruce suggested his team decided to try to hold on to what they had at 1-0 and did not push forward as much after the break.

He said: "I was pleased with the way we played in the first half – the second half was very difficult to say the least.

"I think we just decided that we’d just defend and try to protect what we had, but we didn’t take care of the ball well enough.

"In the first half, what pleased me was that we took care of the ball and handled it well.

"When they scored, that seemed to shake us up a little bit, but there was the ending with the sending off."
